Lifeguard Certification

Tukwila Pool now offers Lifeguard Certification Courses open to the public.

Earn an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, good for 2 years.  This class is available to anyone age 15 and up who can pass the prerequisite swim test.

The total cost of this course is $150 for residents and $175 for non-residents, including the prerequisite test fee.  Tukwila residents are also eligible to apply for scholarship funds to pay for their registration fees.  If you apply for the Lifeguard Trainee program and work for the Tukwila pool for 11 weeks, your course fees may be reimbursed to you.  Learn more about employment opportunities at the Tukwila Pool here.

NOTE: Lifeguards now needed. Speak with Director of Aquatics Operations Michelle Simpson as to how you might qualify for free training, beginning in September 2017.

Prerequisite: Prior to beginning the Lifeguard Certification Course, students must pass a Lifeguard Prerequisite Test where they will demonstrate swimming 300 yards (6 laps/12 lengths) continuously, treading water for 2 minutes, and retrieving a weight from the bottom of the pool within 1 minutes and 40 seconds.  Those who pass the prerequisite class will be permitted to register for this Lifeguard Certification Course.
